chris.pirillo.com Microsoft has had their hand in a lot of markets over the years. They&#8217;ve had their own branding on devices ranging from game consoles to portable media players. The one area where Microsoft has yet to make a presence is in PC manufacturing. One reason for this is their relationship with OEMs such as Dell and HP which would be placed at risk by essentially becoming their own customer&#8217;s competition. One advantage to taking control of the customer experience from stem to stern would be through having the ability to slim and streamline their OS to work well with a predictable set of hardware. In much the same way Apple is able to optimize their OS, Microsoft would gain the ability to reduce the size and sluggishness of their software through control of the hardware. What do you think? <p>Branding yourself is a big task, but also necessary.  Overall branding yourself is more important than branding one product.The notion of branding yourself is not new. Your idea of branding yourself is a dynamic strategy everyone should use if they plan on being a big success. In a nutshell, branding is about knowing what you do, and why you do it.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
I think personal branding is on the brink and is going to blow up big time online.  Working hard branding yourself will get you opportunity.  Personal branding is the way you clarify and communicate what is special about you, so that you don&#8217;t have to talk so hard (or hope for the right question) to explain exactly why you&#8217;re the best candidate for the gig (be it a job or a freelance assignment).</p>

With branding, you are communicating more information on more than simply a verbal level.Your personal brand is communicated through all visual and verbal communication, including your resume, cover letter, portfolio, personal web site, interview outfit, handshake, contact card, and even your personal interests and behavior. Personally branding yourself will give you the opportunity to really connect with who you are and why you are different and thereby attracting the people you want to work with who come to you because you are you.  </p>

To Successfully make money online you will have to brand yourself. When researching and thinking about your brand, ask yourself what brought you to this point in your life to launch a new company, website, identity, what-have-you. Remember your brand must tell some type of story.There are some ways in which you do not want to brand yourself, such as to be seen as the lazy one, the pessimistic one or the groaner.</p>

I brand my name, not the company that I work for.My point is that branding yourself is a great thing.Lets get one thing clear: I do believe that branding yourself is the same with branding any other product.After all, Fortune 500 companies have whole divisions of experts just to guide the future of their own brands.</p>

This does not mean that branding is hard or expensive.When you have created your own brand, you have the value of that name, collection of formulations and the yearly sales figures to add business value.</p>

Branding yourself is simply about letting the mass market know who you are and what you are good at.  Branding yourself is all about being an expert or learning how to be an expert and then telling everyone about your knowledge.</p>

<p>Our saturated market place makes it even harder to entice consumers to our brands; especially when a large proportion of our competitors are using the ‘product plus’ strategies and claiming they have the competitive edge.   These activities are no longer enough to really gain the loyalty of our consumers.   If companies are to create a brand that customers love, are passionate about and would recommended, an understanding of the psychological drive that creates those emotions in humans is required and then it should be applied to brands. </p>

<p>&#13;</p>
<p>In the 1990’s markets started to become saturated, the launch of premium products and products with added value were methods to differentiate one’s brand against a competitors.  Marketing was focused on ‘push’ tactics, where additional product features were heavily promoted.  This phase also contributed to the point that most markets are now overcrowded and however companies design, advertise and promote their products, it is becoming increasingly difficult to demonstrate that ‘point of difference’.  This in turn makes it harder for consumers to decide which brand they will regularly purchase, as they may often feel no particular brand stands out any longer. </p>

<p>‘Push’ marketing can no longer create the effect it once could as basic consumer needs have been met; the continuation of added values to products has resulted in a large amount of ‘me to’ promotions.   This leaves consumers desiring a brand that is refreshing and new.  As with the 1980’s consumers can now be swayed towards products that offer to fulfill a fundamental need; their needs have changed and companies need to recognise that and develop and promote brands that offer something profound instead of just something better. </p>

<p>Our economic environment has also changed, in a way that the consumers lead the way in the types of products and services they demand.  Producers should now be listening to consumers needs more than ever before as we face a world of demand instead of supply.   Products now have to be designed and promoted so that they will trigger the consumers desire to purchase which lies within their subconscious.   Companies should recognise that to create brand loyalty, consumers need to feel they are not just buying something but buying into all the brand qualities that will enhance their lifestyle.</p>

<p>In light of these developments, industry professionals are swapping the term ‘premium’ and replacing it with ‘precious’.  In order to create a brand that consumers become loyal to it needs to have someone unique about it and not just offer a premium. </p>

<p>&#13;</p>
<p>To create a ‘precious’ brand companies should be recognising how and why consumers define themselves by the brands that they purchase and use.  Brands that have successfully done this have tapped into the subconscious of their target audience and created values that they feel match their desires and ambitions as people.  They then transfer these values onto the brand via marketing, design and through every communication point with the consumer.  For example; brands such as Heinz and Kellogg’s reflect their consumers motivation to belong, fit in and be part of popular culture.  Whereas, the Apple brand appeals to those that want to be independent, creative and often outsiders. </p>

<p>It is not unusual for consumers to assign a brand as having an extremely high status, so much so that the products ‘own’ the consumer.  For example, a collection of fine wines can be kept until the content and the status of the wines become good enough to drink.  Or an expensive sports car can be stored and used on those special occasions only.  This type of relationship with a product is more likely to occur with luxury brands, such as a Tiffany necklace may only be worn when attending an event that has enough status and class to reflect the values of the brand.  </p>

<p>To create a precious brand that consumers will become loyal too, companies should thus consider if their consumers would place a certain status on their brands; would the product be something they purchase to use for special occasions, if so it can be marketed as holding the values of class, status and eminence. </p>

<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Each consumer carries a set of rituals, which encompass a host of actions, and routines that surround the use of a product and can reflect the value they place upon that brand.   For example, a consumer owning a Rolex watch may put it on and take it off and store it in a box or drawer every night.  Rituals such as these enhance and pay tribute to the values associated with the brand.  When developing a brand that consumers will become loyal to, it is worth considering how they will use the product, and where and why; this helps informs the types of values that they would attach to it.  In turn. This can reveal how the brand can be presented in a way that it appeals to that audience and taps into their subconscious.  </p>

<p>By companies adopting these insights and consumer developments, combined with working with a marketing agency that understands these brand approaches, they will be able to create, position and develop brands that will stand out in our saturated market place and lead to brand loyalty in their consumers.  </p>

<p>The problem in both above instances could be your&#8217;re not harnessing and using the power of ancient archetypes in your personal branding strategy.</p>
<p>To help explain the concept of ancient archetypes&#8230;</p>
<p>Have you ever noticed certain brands, advertisements, movies, or celebrity personalities seem to instantly connect with you? Without you even realizing it, these brands are communciating a story and meaning to your soul it is already deeply familiar with.</p>
<p>Research in the marketing field indicates that the most powerful brands consistently embody the persona of ancient archetypes. Which ancient archetype you embody is the first thing you must do before you begin developing a personal brand identity.</p>
<p>So, what is an ancient archetype?</p>
<p>Archetypes are believed to be universal, mythical characters that live within the collective unconscious of people all over the world. By symbolizing our core human desires, archetypes can evoke strong, deep emotions that everyone can connect to, and understand.</p>
<p>Examples of powerful brands that stir our emotions are Coke, Nike, Marlboro; movies such as Star Wars, and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial; and personalities like Jackie O., John Wayne, and Lady Di. These &#8220;brands&#8221; have captured and held the imagination of the public. Why? Because they represent something soulfully and deeply familiar to us.</p>
<p>The twelve ancient archetypes are the:</p>
<p>1. Creator</p>
<p>2. Caregiver</p>
<p>3. Ruler</p>
<p>4. Jester</p>
<p>5. Regular Guy/Gal</p>
<p>6. Lover</p>
<p>7. Hero</p>
<p>8. Outlaw</p>
<p>9. Magician</p>
<p>10. Innocent</p>
<p>11. Explorer</p>
<p>12. Sage</p>
<p>Each of these archetypes possess powerful identities that signal the fulfillment of basic human desires and emotions, and releases deep emotions and yearnings within us. Scientific research signals the missing link in successful marketing and branding is a lack of understanding of archetypes, and the power they possess.</p>
<p>During the recent development of my own personal branding strategy, I focused on researching and studying the twelve ancient archetypes to determine which one resonated with me most. After my study, I determined the ancient archetype that best describes me is the Ruler. Well-known Ruler brands are Saab, Ralph Lauren, Fortune, and Microsoft.</p>
<p>The Ruler archetype is known as the leader, and desires control; it also seeks to create prosperity and success, and to make order out of chaos. The ruler identity is right for a brand if it is:</p>
<p>- A high status product</p>
<p>- A product to help people get more organized</p>
<p>- A product at the moderate to high price range</p>
<p>Knowing this type of information helps to create a personal branding strategy that is consistent with the attributes and values of the brand, as well as identify the words to use to market the brand.</p>
<p>By using the ancient power of archetypes when branding your business, you will immediately make your marketing easier, and you&#8217;ll feel more confident because you&#8217;re authentically communicating who you are. This message of individuality and expression is so powerful, your ideal client will intuitively understand you, and be attracted to you.</p>
<p>A branding strategy, using archetypes, allows your audience to dive deep into the heart and soul of who you really are.</p>
<p>Whether you are developing your personal branding strategy for the first time, or rebranding, using ancient archetypes will separate the ordinary brands from you&#8212;the extraordinary brand. Use the power of ancient archetype to develop a powerful personal branding strategy to tell your brand&#8217;s story.</p>

I maintained a sharp website with links to where readers can buy my book, obtained almost fifty endorsements before the book was even released, sought out publications who would review my book or give me an interview and even hob-nobbed with authors whose books are similar to mine to exchange book ads for free. While these are excellent promotional tactics to take, there&#8217;s another marketing strategy that will not only sell your books, but will turn you into an instant expert.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
It&#8217;s called self-syndication.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
What is self-syndication and how does it work to sell my books?</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Self-syndication is simply writing articles in your field of expertise and sending them out to online magazines and content ezines yourself.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
I discovered this promotional tactic by following the path of those authors who write in the same genre as I did which was at that time romance. In my research, I found that relationship websites are booming and the editors need columnists or even articles related to finding the one you love and keeping them. This can work for other genres, as well!</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Even though the majority of these online venues do not pay, this is not your goal for doing it. You want to put your book or website up at every available place there is without having to pay to do so. You might not be getting richer with your articles, but the sales from someone reading your article and clicking on your website link, will boost sales incredibly. Instead of paying to place your book (or website) on sites, this is free and free is good!</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
In my case, since one of my last books dealt with romance and relationships, I wrote articles pertaining to my subject. Next, I put the words &#8220;online relationship magazines&#8221; in a search engine and found an incredible wealth of information. One of the best sites to find what you are looking for is www.dmoz.com. Put whatever kind of publication you are looking for in their search and you have conquered the first step.</p>

Once you find a publication that publishes the kind of content you can provide, look for a link on their site that tells you how to submit. Can&#8217;t find it? Look for the link that says, &#8220;contact us.&#8221; I found that I had to use the latter link in many of my inquiries.</p>

What to say?</p>

My pitch is short and sweet. I used to send lots more information, but that&#8217;s not needed. If they reply back, they will ask for more information. I will use my pitch letter below to show you how I did it:</p>

Dear Editor (try to find their name as this will give you incredible brownie points),</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
I write a &#8220;soul mate&#8221; relationship column that is distributed on the web called &#8220;Romancing the Soul&#8221; and I was wondering how to go about submitting a column idea (or article) to you for your ezine, &#8220;Name of Ezine.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
I am also the compiler/editor (or author, in your case) of &#8220;Romancing the SoulTrue Soul Mate Stories from around the World and Beyond&#8221; which was just released this month. (I give this little tidbit of information so that the editor can see I&#8217;m a published author.)</p>

I don&#8217;t know if this strategy will work for you, but it&#8217;s worked for me. I am syndicating my column to over twenty romance websites with that one simple pitch letter. I&#8217;ve even been asked to be a featured columnist on some of them. Not only will my article appear, but my photo and book information will go up, too.</p>

The benefits?</p>

The benefits to writing and syndicating your articles can only spell success for you and your book. In order to sell your book, you have to sell yourself, too, and what better way for people to get to know how you write than by reading your columns at these various websites.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
The main point I&#8217;m stressing is that you are also creating yourself as an &#8220;expert&#8221; in your field. The media (print, radio and television) is on the constant lookout for experts to appear on their shows or in their magazines and you could be the one they seek!</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
It&#8217;s a win-win situation. Once you establish yourself as an expert, the media will be at your feet. After all, they need well-informed guests to fill their slots and your experience is just might be what they&#8217;re looking for.</p>
<p>&#13;<br />
Start creating articles related to your book or any subject that you are well-informed about. The bio at the end of each article will send potential buyers to your website to buy your books (or services) and by doing this, you&#8217;ll also be creating a buzz about your books. All it takes is a little time to get your list of websites looking for content and you&#8217;re on your way to becoming not only a syndicated columnist, but as a vehicle to sell your books, too!</p>
